Achieving Growth

AMERICAN ENGLISH

First of all, English is English.

There is no substantial difference in the language whether spoken or written in the UK, Canada, the United States, Australia, or anywhere else where English is spoken. But there are different varieties of English and, of course, English accents. Quite frankly, there are far more horrendous and unintelligible British accents than American accents.

In fact, the standard American accent is very clear and very clean — an accent easily understood around the world.

The spelling differences introduced by Benjamin Franklin in the United States some two hundred years ago were an attempt to make American English less British and less elitist by simplifying some of the words influenced by French.

American English is modern, current, democratic, and youthful.

British English is becoming a relic of the past, representing something old, elitist, and alienating. In fact, even the youngest members of the British Royal Family have adopted American accents or modified American accents in order to be seen as more current and relevant in the world. Indeed, the American accent is more egalitarian and more welcoming; it is the English most used today and the English that symbolizes power and success.
